Call it the Greg Maddux syndrome. Not the Atlanta Braves' Maddux, but the Chicago Cubs Maddux. You might even go back to the days of Mario Soto and the Reds. Great pitchers on ball clubs that don't have the offensive support get lost in the shuffle. Gene Sayler was in that category at Wifflepalooza. Even with a 1.32 ERA, he had some tough competition for the Eugene. Scott Hansen went 7-1 and pitched four shutouts on way to a Wifflepalooza title. Rodney Jones had 31 strikeouts and led the HiJackers to the championship game. We have a feeling these three guys may be duking it out for the Eugene for years to come. |
