Okay, it doesn't involved money getting paid to players under the table. But if violations can happen in professional sports (wait, isn't wiffleball a pro sport?), it can happen at Wifflepalooza.
Having one of your players get injured is something no one wishes on anyone's team. Unfortunately, Joe Thomas of the Springfield Isotopes suffered an injury. Springfield had only two healthy players entering the Sweet 16 tournament. Enter Lee Thomas who played for The Crew. His team was 1-3 and didn't qualify for the Sweet 16. The wind affected everyone. Biggs Hurst, last year's Eugene award winner, had a 0.77 ERA. This year he had a 4.55 ERA. Two-time Eugene award winner Scott Hansen always has an under 2.50 ERA. This year his ERA was an astonishing 8.64. While the Wifflepalooza veterans struggled, the likes of Stone, Storer, Beck, Endres, Hammer, Foley and Vaughn emerged as contenders for the Eugene Award. Never before have so many candidates been considered for the Eugene. It was very surprising to see some strong performances at all that windy day.
